Carnival Cruise Line will cancel all cruises down under into January 2022 due to the Australian government’s decision to introduce a new tax on cruise lines. The company says it is “working diligently” with the Australian government and that it hopes to resume sailing in Australia soon.

Carnival Cruise Line has announced the cancellation of all cruises in Australia and New Zealand. The company is moving to a new service model that will allow for more flexibility in when it offers its cruises. Read more in detail here: are carnival cruises cancelled for 2021.

The suspension of Carnival Cruise Line’s cruise operations out of Australia has been extended until January 2022. Guests booked on two ships will be affected by the additional cancellations. It comes as the Australian government has yet to enable cruises to restart in a safe manner, despite the fact that many other cruise markets have already reopened for the summer.

Two more Carnival ships have been canceled.

As a result, the situation in Australia is not improving, as cruise companies, notably Carnival Cruise Line, are prolonging their bans on cruise operations. The Carnival Splendor and Carnival Spirit have been put on hold until January 16, 2022. It implies that Australia’s industry will be put on wait for another 22 months!

“As the COVID-19 situation continues to develop, we are sad to convey the news that Carnival Cruise Company is suspending operations for selected Australian sailings commencing from 15 March 2020 through to and including 16 January 2022,” the cruise line writes in an updated travel warning.

The two Carnival cruise ships were already suspended until December 16, 2021. Because the situation in the nation has not improved enough to allow the cruise line to resume, the ban has been extended since March 2020.

Guests who have been impacted by the cancellation of their cruise will be given some alternatives. Guests who book a six-night or longer trip by December 31, 2021, for a departure by September 30, 2023, will get a 100 percent future cruise credit plus AUD$900 in onboard credit per cabin.

It’s very much the same as the lengthier trips, except with a reduced onboard credit of AUD$450 per cabin for voyages of five nights or fewer. A complete refund is also available, but it must be requested via an online form and may take up to 90 days to process.

What Is the State of Cruises in Australia?

As the cruise sector in Australia sits on hold, frustrations with the Australian government have risen. Other nations, such as the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom, have already reopened.

The government has no plans to restart cruises from Australia at this time. The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has yet to get a response from top government officials.

“Our talks with government agencies have gone nowhere, and our letters to the most highest levels of government have gone unanswered,” CLIA Managing Director Australasia Joel Katz stated earlier in September. Other nations have not only devised comprehensive measures to ensure cruise ship safety in the wake of the epidemic, but have also resumed responsible cruising.”

As a result of Covid-19, Australia is currently the world’s only major cruise destination whose governments have made no headway in adopting strict new health safeguards. “More than a million passengers have safely sailed in countries where cruising has resumed – with rigorous health procedures in place – but our requests for thorough talks with health officials in Australia have been ignored,” Kats added.

A four-phased strategy with precise immunization goals has been published, but the cruise industry in Australia is unsure if it will be included in those plans.

Due to the unpredictability of the situation, sister lines Princess Cruises and P&O Australia have also prolonged their suspensions from Australia.
