Carnival Cruise Line has been providing updates on their scheduled return to Grand Turk, which was cancelled due to Hurricane Matthew. The cruise line is still assessing the schedule for other ports in the Caribbean and will offer a refund if passengers are unable to reschedule.
The “ports closed to cruise ships 2021” is a statement from Carnival Cruise Line that the company will not be returning to Grand Turk until 2021. The company has been working with the government of Turks and Caicos Islands to ensure the safety of guests and crew members.
Carnival Cruise Line has already been waiting a long time to return to Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and that wait was set to end in December 2021. However, it seems that the much-anticipated comeback will have to be postponed.
The Return of Carnival’s Grand Turk has been updated.
This month, the Miami-based cruise company was poised to return to Grand Turk after a long absence. On December 7, 2021, Mardi Gras was scheduled to be the first ship in the fleet to return to the Grand Turk Cruise Center after a 21-month absence, however that call was dropped from the itinerary.
Because the island is not yet ready to welcome returning ships, certain itineraries through December 2021 have already omitted the popular cruise port of call. There are currently two Mardi Gras cruises that will not visit Grand Turk, one on December 7 and the other on December 18, 2021. The call was likewise withdrawn from the Carnival Magic’s December 4 journey from Port Canaveral.

Despite the fact that Carnival Cruise Line has not provided a definite return date, their brand ambassador John Heald did offer an explanation for why the ships have not yet returned:
“The port has been shut down for the last two years. There are a number of tests that must be completed, including dredging, ensuring that the infrastructure is in good working order, and that the beaches and other amenities are ready for tens of thousands of visitors to enjoy. We also have to pay attention to and follow the Covid policies of every port we visit, which is a significant task in and of itself.”

“So I’m here to beg for your patience and guarantee you that you will have the most wonderful time on board and in port, and we can’t wait to sail safely into Grand Turk again as soon as possible,” Heald concluded.
Cruise Ships May Reappear in December
Because the cruise center has been closed for such a long period, work has been underway to prepare for the return of tourists, including the establishment of procedures to ensure that everyone is safe, as well as local merchants and excursions. The Turks and Caicos administration now plans to reopen the week of December 13, 2021, despite the accelerated pace of preparations. The precise date of the first vessel’s return has yet to be determined.

One of the most important components is ensuring that the people are safe from the tens of thousands of cruise ship passengers that visit Grand Turk each year.
“So there’s a measure of safety, even before we get to the portion of the actual health protocols that will enhance and ensure that we have enough layers of safety to ensure that given that there are 6000 persons, additional persons coming on the island, that we minimize those risks overall,” Health Minister Jamell Ribsion said recently.
The news comes after Carnival Corporation pledged to spend more than $73 million in the Turks & Caicos Islands. The Grand Turk Cruise Center will get $25 million in enhancements, including many upgrades to provide the greatest possible experience for Carnival Cruise Line customers as well as visitors from sister lines such as Princess Cruises and Holland America Line.
