To attain Marriott’s top-tier Ambassador status, you’ll need 100 elite nights and $20,000 in spending. They’ve also failed to offer benefits to Ambassador members on a regular basis, and have lowered the level of service given in the last two years. They’re now conducting a poll of members to determine what’s most essential to them as they assess whether or not to spend more on their most valuable members.
This is a Starwood program that has been carried over. Members used to have a personal agent assigned to them to handle all aspects of their trip, including making requests, personalizing things with hotels, and aiding with any arrangements.
This individual would “get to know you over time” and “give the personal touches that make each journey exceptional,” according to the promise. Unfortunately, compared to the days of Starwood, Marriott has upped the criteria for being an Ambassador ($20,000 minimum expenditure plus 100 nights) and has ceased supplying real Ambassadors to Ambassador members.
During the epidemic, Marriott laid off a large number of its finest customer service personnel. While Marriott continues to promote that “Your personal point of contact is always at your service for every stay,” Ambassador members no longer get a personal point of contact and are unable to contact an individual agent directly since “addresses will no longer be checked.”
When I asked Marriott Senior Vice President David Flueck about the program last October, he said Bonvoy “would be investing in the Ambassador program especially heading into 2022, to enhance the entire experience of our top members.”
They’re now conducting a poll of Ambassador members. How satisfied are they with the level, and how satisfied are they with the property?
Marriott wants to hear what aspects of Ambassador are most important to them.
This is a question that bothers me. All of the following should be available with ambassador rank. Members may only choose three of the most significant factors – a better earning rate, an increased… What distinguishes ambassadorship from problem-solving customer service, on-property recognition, and constant delivery of an upgraded experience on property?
How could an Ambassador not anticipate all of this, as well as the historic surprises and joys along the road, such as a member’s assigned Ambassador learning their preferences and sending personalized goods to their guest room?
This survey leads to an erroneous decision. At the point where Marriott has the most difficult to earn published elite tier of any program, the benefits and experiences of that tier must meet the program’s and Starwood’s expectations in all of these areas, with a few exceptions because the experience was, of course, dependent on the particular Ambassador you were assigned to (mine was exceptional when I had one).
Marriott conducted a study regarding encounters with the Ambassador program in April of last year, but no changes were made. They did not, however, inquire about the perks of the Ambassador level at the time. They didn’t inquire about a lack of consistency in benefit delivery or experience.
