Excursions that are friendly to the environment
Protectours, which were initially presented by MSC in 2020, are part of the 2022 MSC shore excursion lineup. These trips have been created to provide tourists with an understanding of the local ecology and fauna while also safeguarding the ecosystem.
Almost 70% of the Protectours incorporate low-impact modes of mobility, such as walking, cycling, or kayaking, and many contribute directly to environmental conservation through supporting species or habitat preservation.
MSC will introduce electric and hybrid transportation in over ten European cities this year, as part of its commitment to help safeguard the environment.
In addition, MSC Bike Adventours’ cycling trips have been expanded, with 150 scheduled for this summer across 21 countries.

Highlights of the 2022 Shore Excursion
Caribbean
MSC Cruises will offer approximately 200 excursions throughout the Caribbean.
- Culinary Delights of San Juan (Puerto Rico): This tour of Puerto Rico’s tastes includes stops to Chocobar Cortés, a chocolatier founded in 1929, handmade gelato, refreshing drinks, and a visit to La Casita de Rones, the official bar and distributor of Puerto Rico’s rums. Guests will learn how to make real Puerto Rican rum here.
- Mayan Ruins of Kohunlich (Costa Maya, Mexico): The archaeological site of Kohunlich, a terraced city erected by the Mayans between A.D. 250 and A.D. 600, is located on the Yucatán Peninsula and is one of Mexico’s unquestionable must-sees. Guests will explore a submerged palace, an acropolis, and other spectacular courtyards at this holy place by traveling back in time.
- A dive into the luxuriant flora, animals, and marine life found on picturesque Blue Lagoon Island with Protectours – Nassau Eco-nature walking tour (The Bahamas). Stingrays, sharks, dolphins, and sea lions are among the various marine species that guests may encounter.

Over 540 shore excursion activities will be available in the eastern and western Mediterranean combined.
