Royal Caribbean has canceled ports and adjusted its itinerary due to a hurricane. But some passengers were left stranded in the Dominican Republic because of travel issues and their request for compensation wasn’t accepted.
The “royal caribbean cruises cancelled 2021” is a story that has been going on for quite some time. Royal Caribbean Cruise Line has canceled ports, and adjusted its itinerary in order to accommodate the demand.
Odyssey of the Seas has revealed some adjustments to its current cruise in a letter to passengers on board. Instead of stopping at St. Thomas on December 29, the ship spent the day at sea, and the ship’s scheduled stop in Puerto Rico on December 30 has been substituted with a stop in the Dominican Republic. The ship’s scheduled stop to Nassau on Saturday, January 1 has also been extended.
Visit to St. Thomas has been canceled.
The Odyssey of the Seas is now on a 7-night Eastern Caribbean “Perfect Day” holiday cruise, which set sail from Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, December 26. While the ship’s departure, a day at Perfect Day at CocoCay on Monday, and a day at sea on Tuesday went according to plan, the ship was slated to visit Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas on Wednesday.

However, the captain stated Tuesday evening that the visit to St. Thomas would be canceled, and the ship would instead spend Wednesday at sea. The letter passengers got later that evening, as compensation for the missed port of call, stated:
“Please accept our apologies for the last-minute alteration. To make amends, we’ll provide you a pro-rated reimbursement for the missing day in the form of an Onboard Credit to your SeaPass Account, plus any applicable taxes and fees for this port. These credits may be spent anywhere aboard, and any leftover cash will be reimbursed to the card associated with your SeaPass Account at the conclusion of the voyage.”
On the plus side, the additional day at sea has offered passengers more opportunity to experience all of Odyssey of the Seas’ exciting amenities, including as the North Star observation pod, SeaPlex activities, the rock wall, FlowRider, Sky Pad, Ripcord by iFly, and more.
Additional onboard activities are often given when a port of call is canceled, however this might be difficult if crew members are isolated owing to positive COVID-19 test results or contact tracing protocols.
The trip to Puerto Rico has been canceled.
The ship’s itinerary has also been changed, with the ship docking at Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday instead of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The decision to remove Puerto Rico from the ship’s itinerary is likely due to local authorities recently tightening COVID-19 testing requirements, with cruise passengers and crew hoping to disembark for any reason now required to present a negative test result taken no more than 48 hours prior to arrival.
The new restriction went into effect in Puerto Rico only a few days ago, with Symphony of the Seas, another Royal Caribbean ship, becoming the first to be refused entrance for failing to fulfill the testing requirements. Since the adjustment, numerous other cruise lines have adjusted their itineraries to exclude Puerto Rico from current and future sailings.
Guests aboard the Odyssey of the Seas have received onboard credit for any scheduled shore excursions at either St. Thomas or San Juan.
The Visit to Nassau Has Been Extend
Odyssey of the Seas has been able to extend its visit to Nassau, which was scheduled for Saturday, January 1, as a result of the changed ports of call. The ship was supposed to be in port from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but it will now stay in Nassau for two additional hours, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Passengers will have more time to explore Nassau as a result of the extra hours, and additional shore trips may be available. The onboard Shore Excursions staff has automatically began rearranging pre-booked Nassau trips to adjust for the changed timetable, according to the notification letter.
Be flexible and adaptable.
All of these modifications to the Odyssey of the Seas’ schedule occur as other cruise ships and cruise companies adapt their arrangements en route to meet new port restrictions or respond to COVID-19 instances aboard. The cruise industry is in a state of flux right now, so travelers should adjust their expectations for any vacation in the coming weeks.
