InteleTravel, the world’s oldest and biggest global travel host agency, has revealed the results of its inaugural travel sentiment poll, which was sent out to its worldwide consumer network in the first quarter of this year.
Consumer optimism for the approaching holiday season was high, according to the statistics, which was similar across several travel industries, with one major concern: pricing.

A return to dependence on travel consultants, Las Vegas as America’s most popular domestic destination, and the Caribbean rising as the most sought-after overseas destination area are all expected to have an impact on the prognosis for 2022.
Findings of importance:
—This year, 62% of respondents plan to travel for the holidays, with the majority (83%) sticking to domestic travel.
—60 percent of parents are traveling for the holidays without their children.
—When planning a vacation, the most important consideration is the cost (80 percent).
—In 2022, 53% of respondents said they would travel modestly (three to five times), mostly for enjoyment.
—Among those visiting domestically next year, Las Vegas is the most popular location (55 percent).
—65 percent of Americans expect to travel outside the United States next year, with the Caribbean being the most popular overseas destination (54 percent). Europe is the second most popular destination.
—While 65 percent of poll respondents said they did not employ a travel agency for travel in 2021, 86 percent indicated they want to do so next year.
—Roughly half of the respondents said they intend to go on a cruise this year or next year.
“These are impressive figures, but not wholly unexpected. There is huge pent-up demand, and we expect a slingshot effect to endure for the next 18 months as limitations are relaxed and consumer confidence returns,” said James Ferrara, President of InteleTravel. “We’ve had record-breaking numbers in all of our booking categories, and I expect significant consumer confidence to return to the cruise sectors in the first quarter of next year, so these numbers will grow much faster.”
Possibly at odds with this ardent wanderlust and increasing reservations, “cost” seems to be the top issue of travelers, followed by concerns about trip availability and negotiating new laws and restrictions imposed by COVID-19.

“‘Revenge’ travel is another trend we’re seeing, particularly among millennials, where a sense of earned vacation is necessary to counter being cooped up for the previous year,” Ferrara said. “However, these kind of travel experiences may occur more often, at cheaper expenses and for shorter periods of time.”
The survey’s most startling finding is that, owing to a slew of concerns around price, possible refunds, and negotiating pandemic-era rules, customers are increasingly planning to use the help of travel experts rather than book their travels individually.
“The easiest way to negotiate the new world of travel is to book with a travel expert,” Ferrara added. “Agents give all the information you need to know, including the best cost, essential locations, numerous requirements, how to secure your purchase, and, most importantly, they provide piece of mind, which self-booking sites lack.”
